Eyelid surgery work
- Upper blepharoplasty. Incisions placed in the natural creases or lines of the upper eyelid; excess skin and fat removed; eyelid muscles tightened in extreme cases (source, also described on source).
- Lower blepharoplasty. Excess fat removed or repositioned to avoid hollowing; muscle support tightened to maintain eye shape (source).
- Performed in-office, 1-3 hours, under local anesthesia with mild sedation or general anesthesia; outpatient.
- Brow lift. Three approaches: open (incision temple to temple across the hairline), endoscopic (multiple small incisions, Dr. Hamawy's preferred technique "when possible" for its minimally invasive nature), and limited/lateral incision (smaller temple incisions, faster recovery) (source).
Other procedures
The practice's face section covers facelift, rhinoplasty and other facial procedures; the practice also offers breast, body and hair restoration procedures per site navigation.
Insurance and cost
The eyelid surgery page states eyelid surgery may be covered by insurance, and that functional blepharoplasty addressing vision obstruction may be covered if it affects daily activities. Average cost is stated as $7,000-$9,000, varying by individual case and additional treatments. The brow lift page states a price quote is given after consultation, including surgeon's fee, operating room and anesthesia, with financing available.
Recovery (eyelid surgery): light activity the day after the procedure; return to work in 7-10 days; contact lenses avoided about 2 weeks; full refinement at six weeks; follow-up visits at several days, 1 week, 1 month, 6 months and 1 year. Recovery (brow lift): up and walking the day of surgery; most routine activity resumes at 2 weeks; light exercise at 4 weeks; swelling fully resolves at 4-8 weeks; results last about five years (endoscopic) to ten years (open).
