When insurance pays in the Mountain West
For lids that block vision. This side of eyelid surgery is kept apart from the cosmetic ranking.
The rule
Medicare and private insurers pay when sagging upper-lid skin or a low lid blocks the top of your vision. A visual field test and photographs show the loss before the operation is approved.
What it pays
Medicare's average payment to the surgeon nationally is $778 for an upper blepharoplasty and $808 for a ptosis repair (2024). The surgery center or hospital is paid separately. You pay your deductible and coinsurance; any cosmetic part of the same operation is billed to you.
