Eyelid surgery work
- Upper blepharoplasty. Incision at the natural horizontal fold in the middle of the upper eyelid; excess skin, muscle and fat removed (source).
- Lower blepharoplasty. Incision just below the eyelashes, or on the inside of the eyelid for under-eye bags, leaving no external scar (same page).
- Eye reshaping. The page states eyelid surgery can change the shape of the eyes, including creating folds in Asian eyes and lifting drooping eyelids (same page).
- Surgery performed under local anesthetic with sedation, in office or hospital, about an hour to two hours depending on scope (same page).
Other procedures
The practice offers brow lift, facelift, neck lift, chin and cheek implants, fat grafting, ear surgery, nasal surgery, skin resurfacing and lip enhancement (drbarnett.com).
Insurance and cost
If upper-eyelid droop significantly reduces side vision, the page states insurance companies may pay a portion of the surgery, typically requiring an ophthalmologist's exam documenting the reduced vision. No specific price figures are published; cost depends on anesthesia and medical tests, prescriptions, the type of eyelid surgery, and the number of eyelids treated.
Recovery
- Sutures out. Four to seven days, at a follow-up appointment.
- Bruising. Generally lasts five to ten days.
- Back to work. Rest two to three days; could return after three days with some bruising, though most patients take one to two weeks before full activity.
- Final result. Long-lasting; unusual to need additional surgery for at least seven to ten years.
