Eyelid surgery work

Per the eyelid surgery page:

  • Upper blepharoplasty. Removes excess upper lid skin; the fat above the lid can be reduced, balanced or added, and lid height may be adjusted in one or both eyes. Incisions sit in the natural creases; muscle and support tissue may be tightened but not removed. Upper lid surgery is done under local anesthesia only or with oral sedation.
  • Lower blepharoplasty. With a corneal shield in place, Dr. Compton makes the incision inside the lower lid to reduce the fat pockets, often with CO2 laser tightening of the lower lid skin. Lid tightening, skin removal and fat grafting to the cheek and tear trough are also described. Lower lid surgery is done under IV sedation or general anesthesia.
  • Eyelid surgery is often combined with brow lift, CO2 laser peel, mid-face lift or fat transfer.

The eyelid gallery lists nine cases and the brow lift gallery lists three.

Other procedures

The brow lift page lists pre-trichial, endoscopic, coronal, midforehead direct, Castanares direct and temporal brow lifts; the temporal lift is often combined with eyelid surgery. The site also offers rhinoplasty, facelift, neck lift, Mohs reconstruction, ear surgery and lasers.

Insurance and cost

  • Eyelid surgery is elective and not covered by health insurance except in documented cases of visual impairment or ptosis; an ophthalmologist can perform a vision test to determine this (eyelid surgery).
  • Price: "On average, expect to pay anywhere between $3,000 to $8,000 for upper lids, lower lids or both."
  • The brow lift page publishes no price.

Recovery

Per the eyelid surgery page:

  • Sutures out: at a follow-up five to seven days after surgery.
  • Bruising: diminishes over the first 10 to 14 days.
  • Back to work: between 7 and 10 days.
  • Makeup and contact lenses: after two weeks.
  • Exercise: no strenuous activity for three weeks.
  • Final result: refreshed appearance by six weeks; incisions may be red for six to eight weeks.
