Eyelid surgery work
The blepharoplasty page describes Dr. Ambro as "a double board certified facial plastic surgeon." The upper eyelid incision is hidden in the lid crease. The lower eyelid incision is placed inside the lid or just below the lower lash line. Fat is removed or repositioned, muscles are tightened if needed, excess skin is trimmed, and the incisions are closed with fine absorbable sutures. Patients receive light twilight sedation, or local anesthesia for some upper-eyelid-only cases, in the in-office procedure suite or an outpatient surgery center at Luminis Health Anne Arundel Medical Center. Patients go home the same day. Blepharoplasty is commonly combined with brow lift, facelift, fat grafting or laser skin resurfacing.
The eyelid gallery holds 13 cases; one is captioned as performed by Dr. Ambro. The brow lift gallery holds 6 cases, including brow lift with upper blepharoplasty.
Other procedures
The brow lift page states that most patients undergo an endoscopic brow lift through small hairline incisions. His bio lists rhinoplasty, facelift, laser skin rejuvenation, otoplasty, skin cancer reconstruction, hair restoration, microtia reconstruction and injectables.
Insurance and cost
- "Generally, blepharoplasty is a cosmetic procedure and not covered by insurance." Carriers may cover part of the cost of functional blepharoplasty when redundant skin causes significant visual impairment. Lower eyelid surgery is generally considered cosmetic (blepharoplasty).
- The site publishes no prices; it states the cost varies widely by patient and offers CareCredit financing.
Recovery
Per the blepharoplasty page:
- Bruising and swelling: mild, with little to no discomfort in the first two to three days.
- Sutures: follow-up at five to seven days, when sutures are removed if necessary.
- Back to work: after five to seven days, with makeup to cover minor bruising.
- Full recovery: generally two weeks.
