Eyelid surgery work
Ophthalmology LTD is a group of 10 physicians (MD and DO) plus optometrists. Its eyelid pages describe the practice's oculoplastics service; Dr. Hammer is the physician whose listing names oculoplastics.
- Oculoplastics. The service covers ptosis, turned-in or turned-out lids, tear duct blockage and cosmetic eyelid surgery. The page states surgery uses local anesthesia and monitored sedation (oculoplastics).
- Blepharoplasty (dermatochalasis). The page describes baggy upper and lower eyelids. Upper lid skin can rest on the lashes and cut off the upper field of vision. Surgery removes excess skin, sometimes the underlying muscle, and occasionally deeper fat (dermatochalasis).
- Ptosis repair. The page lists age, congenital, injury and neurological causes of upper lid droop. Treatment is surgical, with the goal of raising the lid to match the other side (ptosis).
- Ectropion and entropion. Surgery strengthens the muscles that draw the lid away from the eye or tightens the whole lid. It is done under local anesthetic as an outpatient procedure (source).
- Eyelid cancer. The basal cell carcinoma page lists goals of complete tumor removal, preservation of the eye tissues and tear ducts, and a pleasing cosmetic appearance (source).
The practice site has no before-and-after gallery.
Other procedures
Dr. Hammer's listing also names cataract surgery. The practice offers glaucoma, retina, cornea, neuro-ophthalmology, LASIK and PRK care through other physicians (ophthalmologyltd.com).
Insurance and cost
The oculoplastics page states: "Functional eye surgery is often covered by insurance, while cosmetic procedures are not." The practice reviews coverage options and pricing with each patient (oculoplastics). The site publishes no prices and accepts CareCredit.
Recovery
- Skin stitches are removed in the first week, depending on healing (dermatochalasis).
- Bruising and swelling may follow surgery; ice packs for 24 hours help some patients.
- Most patients see functional improvement in days, with close follow-up for the first few weeks (oculoplastics).
