Eyelid surgery work

Procedure pages describe the practice's oculoplastics service, offered by several of the practice's doctors, rather than Dr. Townsend individually; his own bio page states his personal specialty in oculoplastic and lacrimal surgery, cosmetic and corrective, and forehead/brow lifts.

  • Blepharoplasty. Upper, lower, or both; loose or bulging eyelid skin is removed through an incision "made as discreetly as possible," performed at the Dartmouth facility or the New Bedford Surgicenter (blepharoplasty).
  • Ptosis repair. Local anesthesia and/or IV sedation; incisions "commonly placed in the back of the eyelid to reduce scarring," muscle reattached to the eyelid cartilage, dissolvable sutures (source).
  • Entropion and ectropion repair. Outpatient, local anesthetic, surgeon "recreates the natural curvature of the eyelid"; a small section of tissue may be removed (source).
  • Eyelid conditions. Drainage or excision of a stye or chalazion under local anesthesia when it does not resolve with compresses (source).

The practice site has no before-and-after gallery page.

Other procedures

Forehead and brow lift, botulinum toxin injections and laser skin resurfacing, per his bio page (source). The practice also offers BOTOX injections for eye conditions, described as providing relief for up to four months, with a secondary effect on fine lines and wrinkles (source).

Medicare eyelid operations, 2022 to 2024

From CMS, Medicare Physician and Other Practitioners by Provider and Service, NPI 1003800749. Medicare pays only when the lids block vision, so these are the medical cases. Cosmetic eyelid surgery is paid by the patient and is not in this record. CMS leaves out any code billed fewer than 11 times in a year.
