- Board certification as printed: "Double-board certified by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the American Academy of Otolaryngology."
- Performs facial paralysis surgery, including hypoglossal- and masseteric-facial nerve substitution and free gracilis muscle transfer. Treats synkinesis after Bell's palsy with filler, Botox and targeted surgery.
- Published articles listed on the site include "Lower Eyelid Retraction after Lower Blepharoplasty," "Minimally Invasive Orbicularis Sparing (MIOS) Procedure for Lower Eyelid Retraction" and "Ideal Female Brow Aesthetics."
Eyelid surgery work
- Upper blepharoplasty. The practice removes upper eyelid skin and states "no muscle or fat is removed," to keep volume and avoid a hollow look. Fat or filler is sometimes placed in the upper lid to restore volume (source).
- Lower blepharoplasty. The incision can sit below the lashes or inside the lid. The surgeons prefer the inside (transconjunctival) approach, citing lower rates of dry eye and eye rounding. Bulging fat is often repositioned into the hollow below it. When loose lower lid skin is present, a small strip is removed as a "skin pinch."
- Surgery is outpatient, typically at the Midwest Surgery Center inside the Midwest Eye & Ear Institute in Woodbury, and takes one to three hours.
- The page notes descended brows can add to upper lid heaviness, and a brow lift can be added.
- Brow lift. The brow lift page names Dr. Griffin and Dr. Christopher Tolan. It describes endoscopic brow lift through small incisions in the hairline, and trichophytic lift along the hairline, which does not raise the hairline (source).
Gallery: the gallery on his bio page shows procedures performed by Dr. Griffin, including upper blepharoplasty, lower blepharoplasty with fat grafting and CO2 laser, and brow lift with upper blepharoplasty (source).
The site has no page for ptosis repair, double eyelid surgery, canthoplasty or revision eyelid surgery.
Other procedures
The site lists rhinoplasty, facelift, neck lift, facial implants, otoplasty, cleft lip and nose repair, Mohs reconstruction, Bell's palsy and facial paralysis surgery, scar revision, laser resurfacing and injectables.
Insurance and cost
- "Insurance may cover eyelid surgery if the sagging skin obstructs vision"; patients are advised to check with their insurer (source).
- The practice accepts many insurance plans but does not guarantee coverage (source).
- The site publishes no prices; cost depends on technique, duration and anesthesia.
Recovery
- Swelling and bruising typically resolve in one to two weeks (source).
- Temporary sensitivity to light is expected. Patients should not smoke before or after surgery.
