- Board certification as printed: "a board certified surgeon specializing in facial plastics." The site does not name the board.
- Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
- Peer-reviewed articles, including in the Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery; lectures at regional and national meetings.
- American Medical Association Physician Recognition Award, 2004; Albany Medical College Department of Otolaryngology Research Award, 2000 to 2002; Co-Chair, Kansas City Society of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology Annual Conference, 2006.
Eyelid surgery work
- Upper eyelid lift. An incision follows the natural crease of the upper eyelid. Through it she excises redundant tissue, removes or repositions fat and tightens weakened muscle, then closes with fine sutures.
- Lower eyelid lift. The incision is placed inside the eyelid (transconjunctival), excess skin, fat and tissue are removed, and outside of special circumstances no suture is needed.
- The procedure is done under twilight sedation, on the upper lids, lower lids or both in one surgery. It can be combined with brow lift or facelift.
- The men's blepharoplasty page describes incisions in the natural crease or lower lash line, with optional fat grafting to the eye area and laser resurfacing (men blepharoplasty).
- Brow lift. The temporal, or lateral, brow lift is the technique most often performed at the practice; short incisions in the temporal hairline lift the outer brow (source).
- Galleries. Before-and-after categories show upper blepharoplasty, lower blepharoplasty, quad blepharoplasty and brow lift patients (upper, lower, quad, brow lift).
Other procedures
The practice offers facelift, deep plane facelift, QuickLift and micro-lift, neck lift, rhinoplasty, chin augmentation, ear surgery, lip lift, fat grafting, laser resurfacing, eyebrow transplant, laser body contouring and injectables (face procedures).
Insurance and cost
The eyelid page states that Dr. Vargas discusses pricing after the treatment plan is set, since cost depends on whether upper or lower lids are treated and on the complexity of the corrections. Financing is described on a separate page. The site publishes no prices and makes no statement about insurance or Medicare coverage.
Recovery
- Swelling and bruising subside as patients heal; cold compresses and head elevation are recommended (source).
- Most routine resumes after about one to two weeks of rest.
- Strenuous activity is avoided for several weeks or until cleared.
- After a brow lift, swelling and bruising subside in one to two weeks, strenuous exercise is avoided for at least two weeks, and most patients return to work in 10 to 14 days (source).
