Eyelid surgery work
The eyelid surgery page states that Dr. Boynton performs much of his eyelid surgery in an in-office surgical suite under local anesthesia with an oral relaxing medication; general anesthesia is available for patients who prefer it.
- Upper eyelid surgery. Incisions sit in the upper lid crease. For the last seven to eight years he has typically not removed muscle and removes little or no fat, sometimes a small amount from the medial compartment. He adds nano and micro fat transfer to the upper lid and supraorbital rim to correct excess upper eyelid show.
- Lower eyelid surgery. For lower lid fat ("bags") he often uses a transconjunctival approach from inside the lid. Other cases use a subciliary incision below the lash line to remove skin, muscle and fat and redrape the tissue. A pinch blepharoplasty removes a small amount of skin and can be combined with the transconjunctival approach. A canthopexy suture is used in rare cases. Tear trough hollows are treated with fillers such as Restylane or with fat transfer; some younger patients receive laser resurfacing or TCA peels instead.
- Droopy upper lid. The page notes the upper eyelid can become ptotic and require correction.
- Asian blepharoplasty. The page describes double eyelid surgery to create an upper lid fold for patients with a single fold.
Galleries: the eyelid gallery shows 13 patient cases and the brow lift gallery shows 2.
Other procedures
The brow lift page lists four techniques: lateral subcutaneous brow lift (used for most patients, in office in under one hour), endoscopic brow lift, full subcutaneous brow lift with an incision inside the hairline, and direct brow lift (browpexy). It also offers a BOTOX brow lift. The site also offers facelift, neck lift, fat transfer, otoplasty, breast and body surgery, and injectables.
Insurance and cost
The site states no insurance or Medicare policy for eyelid surgery. Published prices (eyelid surgery, brow lift):
- Upper eyelid surgery: starts in the $5,000 and upwards range.
- Lower eyelid surgery: starts in the $6,000 and upwards range.
- Upper and lower combined: $8,500 and upwards.
- Brow lift: usually starts in the $6,000 and upwards range.
The practice offers financing through CareCredit. Office-based eyelid surgery avoids surgical facility and general anesthesia fees, per the eyelid page.
Recovery
Per the eyelid surgery page:
- Back to work: after five to seven days.
- Bruising: about one week.
- Sutures out: after four days.
- Exercise: avoided for at least two weeks.
- Patients often use eye drops for the first week.
