Eyelid surgery work
- Upper blepharoplasty. About 20 minutes; incision hidden in the natural upper-lid crease, made with laser or blade; minimizes skin removal to preserve eyelid closure and function (source). Dr. Murdock is credited as creator of "Baby Bleph," her minimally invasive technique for the area around the eyes (same page).
- Lower blepharoplasty. Subciliary incision for skin removal; fat repositioned into the tear trough hollows through a hidden incision on the inside of the eyelid; laser resurfacing/micro-coring available for skin texture (source).
- Quad blepharoplasty. Combined surgery on all four eyelids for patients with aging changes in both upper and lower lids (source).
- Ptosis repair. Levator aponeurosis repair (most common, for adults); Muller's muscle-conjunctival resection (MMCR) for milder ptosis; frontalis sling operation for patients with poor levator function (source).
- Brow lift. Offers direct brow lift (supraciliary/subciliary or mid-forehead incision), pretrichial (hairline) brow lift, temporal brow lift, brow pexy through an eyelid-crease incision, and endoscopic forehead/brow lift with 4 small scalp incisions (source).
- Ectropion repair and entropion repair also offered.
Other procedures
Tearing/nasolacrimal surgery, evisceration/enucleation/exenteration, chalazion and blepharitis treatment, thyroid eye disease, orbital surgery and orbital decompression, laser skin resurfacing, dermal filler injections, dark circle treatment, and IPL photofacial (procedures menu).
Insurance and cost
The practice publishes a full list of accepted insurance, including Traditional Medicare and Railroad Medicare, plus Aetna, Cigna and other commercial plans (insurance). A direct brow lift with a mid-forehead incision, for older male patients with deep forehead creases, is sometimes covered by insurance (source). No procedure prices are published.
Recovery
- Back to work. Upper blepharoplasty: patients usually return to work within 1-2 weeks; complete healing can take weeks to months (source).
- Bruising. Cold compresses (frozen peas) for the first 48 hours are described as the most important part of healing after upper eyelid surgery (same page).
- Swelling. Lower eyelid blepharoplasty recovery typically lasts several weeks, with normal swelling and bruising gradually subsiding (source).
- Back to work. Quad blepharoplasty: about 1-2 weeks off work; final results most apparent after a few months (source).
