Eyelid surgery work
- Scope. Upper eyelids, lower eyelids or both, for cosmetic improvement or functional improvement of vision. The page lists loose upper eyelid skin that may impair vision, upper eyelid puffiness, bags under the eyes, lower eyelid droopiness showing white below the iris, and lower eyelid wrinkles.
- Anesthesia. Usually local anesthesia; IV sedation is also used.
- Upper eyelid. An incision within the natural crease allows repositioning of fat deposits, tightening of muscles and tissue, and removal of excess skin.
- Lower eyelid. Two techniques: an incision just below the lower lash line, or a transconjunctival incision hidden inside the lower eyelid to redistribute or remove fat.
- Closure. Removable or absorbable sutures, skin adhesives or surgical tape; a laser or chemical peel may be used for dark discoloration of the lower eyelids.
- Setting. An accredited office-based surgical center, outpatient center or hospital.
- The bio lists Asian blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) among his specialties.
Brow lift. The forehead lift page describes an endoscopic brow lift through small incisions within the hairline, temple and scalp incisions for a low brow, and a coronal brow lift with an ear-to-ear incision (procedures_Forehead_Lift.html).
Gallery. The eyelid surgery gallery shows five before-and-after images (gallery/eyelid_surgery.html). The site has no ptosis repair or canthoplasty page.
Other procedures
The site lists facelift, neck lift, nose surgery, chin surgery, facial implants, ear pinning, cleft lip and palate repair, breast and body surgery, scar revision, skin cancer surgery, and non-surgical treatments including BOTOX, fillers, peels and Ultherapy (plasticsurgeryoahu.com).
Insurance and cost
- "Most health insurance does not cover cosmetic surgery or its complications." Eyelid surgery performed to eliminate redundant skin covering the eyelashes may be covered by insurance (procedures_Eyelid_Surgery.html).
- The bio page states consultations are free for patients who have not had the procedure before, last about 30 minutes, and include a written cost estimate and a review of financing options.
- The site publishes no eyelid surgery prices.
Recovery
- Patients need a few days off work and restricted activity.
- Stitches stay in for less than a week and are then removed.
- Initial healing may include swelling, bruising, irritation or dry eyes, controlled with medication, cold compresses and ointment.
- Final results appear within several weeks; incision lines may take up to a year to fully refine.
