- Fellow of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery and of the American College of Surgeons.
- He lectures and serves as faculty for AACS live surgical workshops. In September 2010 he presented upper blepharoplasty basics at an AACS Total Facial Rejuvenation workshop, and in 2008 he gave grand rounds on blepharoplasty for the Asian patient.
- The about page states he completed about 1,400 major aesthetic procedures during fellowship.
- Hospital appointments: Crestwood Hospital, Huntsville Hospital, Huntsville Surgical Center and Madison Surgical Center.
Eyelid surgery work
- Blepharoplasty. The eyelid surgery page describes smoothing fat bulges, removing excess upper and lower lid skin and reducing under-eye bags. It notes droopy lids can obscure vision.
- Lax lid skin is treated by excision or occasionally by laser resurfacing. Fat causing bags is removed or repositioned, leaving enough fat to prevent a hollow look with age.
- In most lower blepharoplasty cases Dr. McLain uses transconjunctival incisions inside the eyelid. He typically adds fat grafting to the tear troughs and laser resurfacing to tighten lower lid skin; severe lower lid aging may need an external incision.
- Upper blepharoplasty uses an external incision hidden in the lid crease.
- Brow lift. The brow lift page describes an endoscopic lift through small scalp incisions. For a high hairline or long forehead, an open lift uses a beveled incision behind the front hairline. Eyelid surgery is often combined with brow lift.
- Gallery. The blepharoplasty gallery lists 8 cases, including lower blepharoplasty, lower blepharoplasty with cheek implants, and endoscopic brow lift with lower lid blepharoplasty.
Other procedures
The site lists facelift, rhinoplasty, cheek and facial implants, otoplasty, laser resurfacing and fillers. It also offers breast and body surgery, gynecomastia correction, and oral and maxillofacial surgery including jaw surgery, dental implants, wisdom teeth and facial trauma (source).
Insurance and cost
- The site publishes no eyelid or brow lift prices and makes no statement on insurance or Medicare coverage for eyelid surgery.
- A financing page is listed under resources.
Recovery
- After blepharoplasty, swelling, bruising and dry eyes are common and temporary; cold compresses and oral medication treat discomfort (eyelid surgery).
- Most patients go out with makeup after about a week, and some return to work then.
- Brow lift: sutures or staples come out within one week; normal activities resume within one week and rigorous activity after about a month (brow lift).
