Eyelid surgery work

  • Upper blepharoplasty. An incision in the natural crease of the upper eyelid is used to remove excess skin and a small strip of muscle; fat removal or fat grafting may smooth the transition between eye and cheek. The page states upper lid surgery can improve peripheral vision when skin hangs over the lashes (blepharoplasty).
  • Lower blepharoplasty. Dr. Pryor may use a transconjunctival approach (incision inside the lid) or a subciliary approach (just below the lashes) to remove or reposition fat that causes under-eye bags.
  • Surgery takes one to three hours under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia. A complete eye exam is required before surgery.
  • The FAQ separates ptosis correction, a functional repair of the muscle that lifts the lid, from blepharoplasty, and states Dr. Pryor evaluates which procedure or combination is needed. Brow lift is often combined with blepharoplasty.
  • Brow lift. The page describes coronal, endoscopic, temporal (in-office under local anesthesia), direct (incisions above the brows) and open brow lift techniques. The brow is released, elevated and secured with internal sutures; a drain may be placed. Surgery takes one to two hours (source).

  • Most patients return to public life in about two weeks.
  • Cold compresses or ice packs during the first 48 hours; temporary blurred vision or light sensitivity may occur.
  • No contact lenses for about two weeks; dark sunglasses outdoors.
  • Swelling and bruising subside within 10 to 14 days; final results settle over a few months.
  • Brow lift: return to work within about 2 weeks, heavy exercise after at least 3 weeks (source).
