Training and board certification

Stage Detail
Residency and facial plastic training Otolaryngology and Facial Plastic Surgery training at Johns Hopkins, completed in 2007
Practice 15 years caring for patients in Billings, Montana; now in Bozeman
Military 12 years in the Army reserve; deployed in support of Operation Iraqi and Enduring Freedom; retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 2015
  • Board certification as printed: "double boarded Otolaryngologist and Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon." The site does not name the boards.
  • Stated interests: injectables, lasers, aging face surgery, functional and aesthetic rhinoplasty, "functional and aesthetic oculoplastic surgery," and reconstruction after Mohs and melanoma surgery.

Eyelid surgery work

  • Upper blepharoplasty. Removal of excess lid skin and/or herniated fat. The site states it can be cosmetic or functional, takes about an hour, is done under local or anesthesia, and is sometimes combined with a brow lift when a low brow pushes lid skin over the lashes (source).
  • Lower blepharoplasty. Dr. Wolpoe can work inside the lash line when fat is the main problem, and can add Morpheus8 and/or Facetite radiofrequency skin tightening for mild laxity. Significant excess skin is removed with fat through an external incision, done conservatively. The procedure takes about 60 to 90 minutes under local or general anesthesia (source).
  • Ptosis repair. For the most common cause, levator dehiscence, the muscle is tightened to its natural ligament to raise the lid. Other causes need a different approach. The page states he works with the patient's eyecare professional (source).
  • Entropion and ectropion. Repair of lower lids pulled away from or toward the eyeball, which can cause tearing, dry eye or corneal damage (source).

The practice site has no before-and-after gallery page.

Other procedures

  • Brow lift. Approaches listed: direct, mid forehead, pretrichial and endoscopic; the pretrichial and endoscopic lifts are the two most common for cosmetic purposes (source).
  • The site also lists face-lift (including short incision and MACS lift), neck lift, primary and revision rhinoplasty, chin implants, septoplasty, endoscopic sinus surgery, skin cancer reconstruction and melanoma surgery, removal of benign lumps, and non-surgical Morpheus8, Facetite, Accutite, fillers, neuromodulators and SkinPen microneedling.

Insurance and cost

  • Upper blepharoplasty can be functional "when the excess skin significantly limits the visual field or pushes the lashes onto the cornea" (source).
  • Brow lifts can be functional with visual field obstruction or facial nerve palsy, but "most often are considered cosmetic" (source).
  • The site publishes no prices. It offers Cherry payment plans (source).

Recovery

  • Upper blepharoplasty: downtime in the 7 to 10 day range; little pain; complications uncommon.
  • Lower blepharoplasty: downtime in the 7 to 10 day range.
  • Brow lift: 7 to 10 days for smaller incision lifts, 2 to 3 weeks for a more involved lift.
