Eyelid surgery work

  • Blepharoplasty. The eyelid page describes removing fat and excess skin and muscle from the upper and lower eyelids, ranging from a simple skin excision to more complex repositioning of the lids and underlying tissues (source).
  • Incisions. Upper incisions sit in the lid creases; lower incisions sit just below the lashes and may extend into the crow's feet or laugh lines. He separates skin from fat and muscle, removes excess fat, trims sagging skin and muscle, and closes with fine sutures. Complex cases take up to three hours.
  • Transconjunctival blepharoplasty. For lower eyelid fat without excess skin, the incision is inside the lower eyelid, usually in younger patients with thicker, more elastic skin.
  • Skin treatment. A chemical peel or laser treatment of the eyelid skin may be added for fine lines or sun damage.
  • Brow assessment. The page states that many patients who think they need an eyelid lift need a brow lift.
  • Anesthesia and facility. Many upper face procedures are done under local anesthesia; others use sedation by an anesthesiologist, in his accredited in-office OR suite or an outpatient hospital.
  • Galleries. The eyelid surgery gallery shows upper, lower, quadrilateral and transconjunctival blepharoplasty cases by Dr. Steely (eyelid-surgery gallery). The face procedures gallery includes temporal and endoscopic brow lift cases combined with blepharoplasty (face-procedures gallery).

Other procedures

The brow lift page describes an endoscopic forehead lift through three to five scalp incisions under an inch long, and a mini temporal brow lift for the lateral brow, used especially in men with receding hairlines (source). The site also lists facelift, neck lift, breast augmentation, lift and reduction, tummy tuck, liposuction, body lifts, injectables and laser skin resurfacing (source).

Insurance and cost

The eyelid page publishes no price; it directs patients to an in-person assessment for a personalized estimate. The site makes no statement about insurance or Medicare coverage for eyelid surgery. The financing page lists CareCredit and other payment plans (financing).

Recovery

  • Side effects can include blurred vision for a few days and temporary swelling at the corners of the eyelids (source).
  • Desk work is possible after a day or two; bruising and swelling vary, and men tend to swell and bruise more than women.
  • Contact lenses may not fit well for a few days because of mild swelling of the eye.
  • Brow lift: any drain comes out after 24 to 48 hours; keep the head elevated for two to three days; stitches come out after a week (source).
