Eyelid surgery work
The eyelid surgery page describes two approaches:
- Transconjunctival. Removes lower eyelid bulges from inside the eyelid with no external scar; not suited to cases that need excess skin removed.
- Transcutaneous, lower eyelids. Corrects grooves and bags through an incision below the lower lashes. The page states Dr. Schuster takes care to avoid or correct over-resection of fat, which creates a hollow look.
- Transcutaneous, upper eyelids. Excess skin and puffy fat are removed through an incision in the natural crease. Ptosis, a droopy lid from weak upper eyelid muscles, is sometimes corrected at the same time.
- Surgery is outpatient and can be combined with face lift or brow lift. Non-surgical options on the page include BOTOX, chemical peels, Restylane and other fillers, and laser resurfacing.
Brow lift. The brow lift page describes an endoscopic brow lift through short incisions behind the hairline with no shaving; an open brow lift with an incision along the front of the hairline that can lower the hairline while raising the brows; and a limited-incision method combining both. Activity increases after about two weeks and most exercise waits about four weeks.
Galleries. The eyelid surgery gallery lists 26 cases, and the brow lift gallery lists 8 cases.
Other procedures
His bio lists rhinoplasty, facelift, breast enhancement, reduction and lift, liposculpture and abdominoplasty, with laser resurfacing and BOTOX. The gallery also covers gynecomastia, ethnic rhinoplasty and surgery after large weight loss (About Dr. Schuster).
Insurance and cost
The site publishes no eyelid or brow lift prices and makes no statement on insurance or Medicare coverage. The financing page states that surgeon, facility and anesthesia fees are assessed separately, that a quote is given after consultation, and that financing and payment plans are discussed then.
Recovery
From the eyelid surgery page:
- Back to work: four to seven days off from work or school.
- Bruising: one to two weeks; makeup can cover it after a few days.
- Swelling: largely gone by four to six weeks, when results are apparent.
- Aftercare: cool compresses and keeping the head elevated speed recovery.
- Final result: complete healing can take several months; most patients keep the result for a decade or longer.
