- The bio page states he has been a Main Line Today "Top Doc" since 2011.
- Board certification: the practice's plastic surgery FAQ, written in first person, states "doubly board certified in general as well as plastic surgery." The bio page does not name a certifying board.
Eyelid surgery work
- Blepharoplasty. The eyelid surgery page describes removing excess fat and skin to correct drooping upper eyelids and puffy bags below the eyes. It names dermatochalasis (stretched upper eyelid skin) and lower eyelid fat collections as the conditions treated.
- Upper eyelid incisions are usually placed in the crease of the upper eyelid. Lower eyelid incisions can be made inside the lid (transconjunctival technique) when no skin is removed; more commonly they are placed below the lashes.
- Dr. Hoffman separates the skin from the underlying fat and muscle, removes or repositions excess fat, and trims sagging skin and muscle, then closes with fine sutures.
- The procedure is outpatient, lasts one to three hours, and uses general or local anesthesia. The upper blepharoplasty price is listed as in-office.
- Dr. Hoffman may advise an ophthalmology visit before surgery for patients with dry eyes, diabetes, high blood pressure or hypothyroidism.
- The page states eyelid surgery does not remove crow's feet, lift sagging eyebrows or remove dark circles.
- Brow lift. The brow lift page describes one larger incision or, in the endoscopic method, several small incisions behind the hairline, with the brows secured by sutures or absorbable screws. Surgery lasts one to two hours. A suture suspension brow lift raises the lateral brow in the office under local anesthesia in about 20 minutes; results last 1.5 to 2 years.
- Gallery. The blepharoplasty gallery lists patient cases with age and sex, including a 53-year-old woman one year after bilateral upper lid blepharoplasty. The cases do not name the surgeon.
Other procedures
The site lists facelift, neck liposuction, rhinoplasty and facial fat grafting, plus breast, body and post-weight-loss surgery. A MedSpa in Malvern offers injectables, lasers and skin treatments (source).
Insurance and cost
- Published prices on the eyelid page: upper blepharoplasty (in-office) $4,500 to $6,500; lower blepharoplasty $6,500 to $8,500; upper and lower blepharoplasty $7,500 to $9,500.
- Brow lift (in office): $2,500; prices may vary with the patient's needs and scope of the procedure. The brow lift page lists Alphaeon Credit and CareCredit financing.
- The site makes no statement on insurance or Medicare coverage for eyelid surgery. The consultation FAQ lists a $200 second-opinion visit fee.
Recovery
- Recovery typically lasts seven to ten days, with soreness, tightness and short-term blurred vision possible.
- Head elevation for several days and cold compresses reduce swelling and bruising.
- Contact lenses and exercise resume after about two weeks.
- Brow lift: return to normal routines in seven to ten days; bruising and scabs mostly gone after three weeks (brow lift).
