Eyelid surgery work
- Upper blepharoplasty. Excess skin, muscle and protruding fat are removed. The scar is usually hidden in the upper lid crease, with its outer extension also hidden.
- Lower blepharoplasty. Two approaches:
- An incision just under the lower lashes.
- Transconjunctival blepharoplasty: fat removal only, through an incision inside the lower lid with no external scar.
- Laser resurfacing can smooth remaining fine lower lid wrinkles and crow's feet. A brow lift is sometimes added to open the upper eye area.
- The practice also has a page on eyelid surgery for men (eyelid lift for men).
- Brow lift. The practice now focuses on the temporal (lateral) brow lift, often combined with blepharoplasty; the page states its results "have been shown to last longer." Other options:
- A direct brow lift with an incision at the upper border of the eyebrow, which can be done under local anesthesia.
- An endoscopic brow lift for select patients.
- Brow lifts are done under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation (brow lift).
Gallery: the eyelid surgery gallery holds 34 cases labeled by surgeon, 13 of them labeled Dr. Samir Rao (eyelid surgery gallery). The practice's brow lift cases are labeled with another surgeon.
Other procedures
His bio lists breast augmentation, lift, reduction and revision, gynecomastia, and breast reconstruction, including DIEP and other flap procedures. It also lists body contouring (mommy makeover, liposuction, tummy tuck, arm, thigh and body lift, Brazilian butt lift) and facial rejuvenation (facelift, neck lift, skin resurfacing, eyelid surgery) (Samir S. Rao).
Insurance and cost
- The eyelid page states that skin hanging onto the lashes and blocking vision is a medical necessity and "may be covered by insurance" (eyelid surgery).
- The pricing page states insurance typically does not cover elective procedures (pricing).
- Blepharoplasty: starting at $3,500, varying with upper lids, lower lids or both.
- The eyelid page offers a complimentary consultation. CareCredit financing is offered (financing).
Recovery
- Swelling: with upper and lower lids done together, vision may be limited until swelling eases in 2 or 3 days.
- Sutures out: within three to five days; showering allowed then.
- Exercise: light exercise after one week, more strenuous exercise after two weeks.
- Bruising: generally gone within 10 to 14 days.
- Brow lift: usually two weeks of downtime (brow lift).
