Eyelid surgery work
- Scope. Eyelid surgery may be done on the upper lids, the lower lids or both, under local anesthesia, and lasts up to about two hours depending on whether one or both eyes are treated. It is an outpatient procedure.
- Upper blepharoplasty. The incision is often placed along the lash line or crease to remove skin and tissue that droops over the eye.
- Lower blepharoplasty. The incision is placed below the lash line to remove fatty tissue, and the skin is gently lifted.
- Add-ons. A nonsurgical laser procedure can be performed for discoloration, and fillers can be used for additional smoothness. Botox can be combined with eyelid surgery for wrinkles around the eyes and forehead.
- The page states crow's feet and forehead wrinkles may be better addressed with a facelift or brow lift, since eyelid surgery improves the eyelids only.
Gallery: the eyelid lift gallery shows 13 cases, labeled upper eyelid blepharoplasty or lower eyelid blepharoplasty (source).
The site has no dedicated page for ptosis repair, double eyelid surgery, canthoplasty, revision eyelid surgery or brow lift.
Other procedures
The face page lists facelift, brow lift, rhinoplasty and facial fat transfer (face). The site also offers breast and body surgery and med spa treatments (theplasticsdoc.com).
Insurance and cost
- "When hanging skin is limiting your vision, your health insurance might cover some of your blepharoplasty." Staff help send the required paperwork to the insurer; in most cases a letter from an optometrist or ophthalmologist is needed (blepharoplasty).
- The site publishes no eyelid surgery price. Cost depends on upper, lower or both lids and is discussed at consultation. Financing is through CareCredit and Alphaeon Credit (source).
Recovery
- After outpatient eyelid surgery, patients need a few days to rest and avoid strenuous activity; ice packs reduce discomfort, swelling and bruising.
- Light swelling follows surgery; full effects appear over the following weeks.
- Results can last a decade or longer (blepharoplasty).
