- Board certification: the site states he became "board-certified in that specialty in 1997" (otolaryngology-head and neck surgery) and passed "both written and oral board exams in 2002" after plastic surgery residency.
- Elected to Alpha Omega Alpha; received the Merck Manual prize and the George Udhe award in head and neck surgery in medical school.
- He contributed to face transplantation research with University of Louisville School of Medicine scientists and is on the scientific advisory board for Suneva Medical.
- Surgery is performed at an accredited outpatient plastic surgery center in Louisville.
Eyelid surgery work
- Upper blepharoplasty. An outpatient surgery under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation, about two hours when both lids are treated. Dr. Maguire places the incision in the natural upper lid fold, excises surplus skin and displaced fat, tightens underlying tissue and closes with removable stitches. He can also create an upper eyelid crease for patients who lack one, such as some patients of Asian heritage (eyelid surgery).
- Lower blepharoplasty. Done under general anesthesia in about 1 hour, through an incision under the lash line or inside the lid along the conjunctiva, to remove or reposition fat and tighten internal structures. Severe bags and sagging lower lids may need canthoplasty or canthopexy at the outer corner to anchor the lid (lower eyelid surgery). For hollowness without fat pockets, the page names HA dermal fillers as an option.
- Brow lift. Dr. Maguire uses an endoscopic approach when appropriate, a trichophytic hairline incision for a high hairline, or a temporal brow lift that raises the outer brow only; about 90 minutes (brow lift).
- Gallery. The eyelid surgery gallery holds 10 patient cases (eyelid gallery). The site has no brow lift gallery.
Other procedures
The site lists facelift, neck lift, rhinoplasty including ethnic and revision rhinoplasty, lip augmentation, breast and body surgery, and non-surgical skin treatments (mycenterforbeauty.com).
Insurance and cost
- If eyelid ptosis interferes with vision and daily tasks, insurance may cover a portion or all of the cost; cosmetic blepharoplasty is not covered (eyelid surgery).
- The site publishes no prices. A quote after consultation includes facility, surgeon, anesthesiologist and post-operative care costs; financing may be offered.
Recovery
- Back to work: one to two weeks off after eyelid surgery; about one week off after lower blepharoplasty.
- Symptoms improve greatly within about one week; bruising after lower lid surgery lasts about two weeks.
- Ice compresses for the first 72 hours after lower lid surgery; no driving for one to two weeks.
- Regular physical activity resumes gradually at two to four weeks.
- Upper eyelid results typically last up to seven years; lower eyelid results are described as virtually permanent.
- Brow lift: initial recovery 10 to 14 days, with clips or sutures removed by then.
