Residency Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis

  • His bio page does not state a board certification.
  • Publications listed include studies on same-day CT and intraoperative CT in orbital fracture repair (Facial Plastic Surgery & Aesthetic Medicine, 2023) and on timing of Mohs reconstruction (Facial Plastic Surgery, 2023).
  • Procedures named in his bio: rhinoplasty, facelift, blepharoplasty, facial reconstruction, scar revision, Botox and fillers.

Eyelid surgery work

  • Upper blepharoplasty. Removes upper eyelid skin. The page states that no muscle or fat is removed, to preserve upper eyelid volume; fat or filler is sometimes added to the upper lid.
  • Lower blepharoplasty. Can be done through the skin below the lashes or through the inside of the lower lid. The surgeons prefer the inside (transconjunctival) incision, citing studies showing lower rates of dry eye and eye rounding. Bulging fat is often repositioned into hollows; a small "skin pinch" removes extra lower lid skin when present.
  • Eyelid surgery is outpatient at the Midwest Surgery Center inside the Midwest Eye & Ear Institute in Woodbury and takes one to two hours (the FAQ says one to three).
  • A brow lift may be added when descended brows cause upper lid heaviness. The brow lift page describes endoscopic and trichophytic techniques (brow lift).

Galleries: the practice gallery holds cases from several surgeons. Two state "Performed by: Dr. Sciegienka":

  • A man one month after upper blepharoplasty (case 257270).
  • A woman after endoscopic brow lift with upper blepharoplasty (case 257573).

Other procedures

The practice lists rhinoplasty, facelift, neck lift, facial fat grafting, facial implants, otoplasty, Mohs reconstruction, facial paralysis and cleft lip and nose surgery, plus lasers, injectables and skin care (mw-fp.com).

Insurance and cost

  • "Insurance may cover eyelid surgery if the sagging skin obstructs vision." The practice advises checking with the insurance provider (eyelid lift).
  • No prices are published. Cost depends on technique, operating time and anesthesia type; the financing team discusses payment options.

Recovery

  • Expect temporary bruising, swelling and light sensitivity; swelling and bruising typically resolve in one to two weeks (eyelid lift).
  • Lower lid blepharoplasty has a longer recovery than upper lid surgery.
