Eyelid surgery work
The blepharoplasty page (blepharoplasty) describes:
- Upper eyelid lift. Excess skin is removed in a crescent shape. Bulging fat is removed, typically from the areas next to the nose, and fine sutures close the incision in the lid fold.
- Lower eyelid lift. The incision is placed just below the lower lashes or on the inside of the lid. Fat is removed or redistributed to fill hollow tear troughs, the overlying muscle is redraped and tightened, and redundant skin is removed if needed.
- Surgery takes one to three hours as an outpatient procedure, under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia.
- Concerns treated include droopy upper lids, under-eye bags, crepey skin, visual obstruction and ptosis.
- The page states lower eyelid surgery "is a once-in-a-lifetime procedure for most patients."
An article on the site, written in the first person by Dr. Ronan (upper vs. lower blepharoplasty), states that upper lids and brows must be evaluated together. It reports prolonged swelling in patients who had injectable fillers in the lower lids. It describes fat grafting from the abdomen into the lower lids and cheeks as his alternative. The male blepharoplasty page states that eyelid surgery does not change contact lens fit (source).
Brow lift. The brow lift is performed through small incisions in the hair above the forehead. The skin is redraped, the brows and upper lids are lifted, and the muscles between the brows are partially removed to reduce frown lines (source).
Gallery: the eyelid gallery shows 6 cases (gallery eyelid-lift). The site has no brow lift gallery.
Other procedures
The site lists facelift, neck lift, rhinoplasty, chin implant, facial fat transfer, otoplasty and hair restoration. It also lists breast surgery and reconstruction, body contouring after weight loss, men's procedures and a med spa with injectables and lasers (source).
Insurance and cost
- "Insurance coverage is typically only available if the upper lid blepharoplasty is deemed medically necessary." The page recommends a formal vision test before the consultation when droopy lids block vision (blepharoplasty).
- The site publishes no eyelid surgery price. Financing is offered through PatientFi and CareCredit.
Recovery
- Cold compresses are used frequently for the first 48 hours.
- Most swelling and bruising subside within a week.
- The head is kept elevated for several days; contact lenses are avoided for about two weeks.
- Most patients return to work and public life within seven to ten days.
- The article states that, after combined facial surgery including the eyelids, most patients are ready to go out in public at two weeks (upper vs. lower blepharoplasty).
