Eyelid surgery work

  • Blepharoplasty removes excess skin and/or fat from the upper and/or lower eyelids and can be used to improve the field of vision.
  • Dr. Ringler makes a small incision along the natural eyelid crease or just beneath the lower lashes, removes or repositions excess skin and fat, and tightens eyelid tendons when needed. The page also states lower blepharoplasty incisions are made inside the eyelid, leaving no visible scar.
  • The operation is outpatient under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with IV sedation and takes about one to two hours.
  • Eyelid surgery is often combined with brow lift, lip lift, facial fat transfer or facelift, or with laser resurfacing, fillers and Botox.
  • Brow lift. The endoscopic brow lift uses short incisions within the hairline and at the temples, or within the upper eyelid crease, to treat a hooded brow, frown lines and low brows (endoscopic brow lift).

The site lists facelift, short-incision facelift, neck lift, chin and jaw enhancement, ear surgery and fat transfer, plus breast and body surgery, injectables, lasers, skin care and hair restoration (stevenringlermd.com).

Insurance and cost

  • "In general, eyelid surgery at the Center for Aesthetics and Plastic Surgery will cost anywhere between $6,000 and $8,450" (eyelid surgery).
  • Insurance does not cover cosmetic surgery unless medically necessary. If the upper eyelids interfere with the field of vision, insurance may cover the eyelid lift.

  • Rest frequently the first week; sleep with the head elevated for about 72 hours; use cold compresses.
  • Back to work and normal routines: about one to two weeks.
  • Strenuous exercise: avoided for about four to six weeks.
  • Results: upper eyelid results last about five to seven years; lower eyelid results are generally considered permanent.
