Eyelid surgery work
The Kearney Eye Surgical Center page states that its surgeons perform many types of eyelid surgery, including upper eyelid repair, lower eyelid repair, eyebrow repair and cosmetic surgery (Surgical Services). The page describes four procedures:
- Blepharoplasty. Surgical eyelid repair that removes excess skin and repositions the surrounding muscles and tendons, on the upper or lower eyelids. The page states it can be a functional procedure covered by insurance or a cosmetic procedure; on the lower eyelids it is almost always cosmetic.
- Entropion repair. For an eyelid that turns inward so the lashes irritate the cornea; the repair removes skin and tightens the eyelid and lashes into position.
- Ectropion repair. For a lower eyelid that turns outward, usually from tissue weakening with age or facial nerve palsy; surgery is recommended for chronic conjunctivitis or corneal irritation or damage.
- Browplasty. A forehead lift that elevates drooping eyebrows that may obstruct vision and smooths forehead lines.
The page names bilateral upper eyelid repair, bilateral lower eyelid repair and bilateral browplasty as the most common cosmetic procedures at the center. The practice site has no before-and-after gallery page.
The surgical center opened in 2007 next to the institute. It has one operating room and one procedure room, is licensed by the State of Nebraska, and is Medicare certified (Our Facility).
Other procedures
The practice offers cataract surgery, including femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery and toric and presbyopia-correcting lenses, glaucoma treatment including SLT and iStent, YAG laser, pterygium repair, iris repair and conjunctival biopsies, plus optometry and an optical department (Surgical Services; Message from Our Surgeon). The watery eyes page describes tear duct probing for infants and punctal plugs (Watery Eyes).
Insurance and cost
- Kearney Eye Institute and Kearney Eye Surgical Center participate with Medicare, Medicare Advantage plans, Medicaid and most commercial insurance plans (Insurance Plans).
- Functional blepharoplasty can be covered by insurance; cosmetic eyelid surgery is not (Surgical Services).
- Out-of-pocket cost is paid before surgery, and patients having cosmetic services bring payment on the day of surgery. A cost analysis is mailed after surgery is scheduled; anesthesia is billed separately (Patient Information).
- The site publishes no eyelid surgery prices. It states the surgical center offers "competitive cosmetic pricing."
