Eyelid surgery work

  • Upper blepharoplasty. Incision in the natural upper eyelid crease; removal of loose skin and fat as needed, repositioning of the lacrimal gland if necessary, and correction of eyelid position. About one hour. Can be done under local anesthesia or twilight sleep, in the office or operating room. The page states ptosis may be addressed together with upper blepharoplasty.
  • Lower blepharoplasty. Dr. Walker often repositions fat rather than removing it, to smooth the lid-cheek transition. The transconjunctival approach (inside the eyelid, no external scar) is his preferred method in many cases; the subciliary approach (just below the lashes) is used when skin tightening or removal is needed. Patients with lower eyelid laxity may get added support techniques. 1.5 to 2 hours.
  • Combined procedures. Brow lift, deep plane facelift, facial fat grafting, rhinoplasty and laser skin resurfacing.
  • Brow lift. Temporal brow lift (the one he performs most), endoscopic, coronal, trichophytic and direct brow lift, plus a non-surgical brow lift with neuromodulators. The temporal lift is often done with upper eyelid surgery and in some cases under local anesthesia in the office (source).

The blepharoplasty gallery lists 8 before-and-after cases (source). The site has no brow lift gallery.

Other procedures

The site lists primary, revision and ethnic rhinoplasty, septoplasty and sinus surgery, facelift and deep plane facelift, neck lift, buccal fat removal, chin and cheek augmentation, otoplasty, NeoGraft hair restoration, skin cancer and Mohs reconstruction, and injectables and laser treatments (source, source).

Insurance and cost

  • Functional blepharoplasty, when the field of vision is diminished, could be covered by health insurance depending on the plan; an ophthalmologic visual field evaluation is typically needed first.
  • The eyelid page prints typical Atlanta costs: upper blepharoplasty $3,000 to $5,000; lower blepharoplasty $3,500 to $6,000. The specific cost is set at consultation, and financing options are offered (financing).

Recovery

  • Upper eyelid: bruising and swelling typically last 1 week; rest at home and stay off work for 1 week.
  • Sutures: removed 5-7 days after surgery (the recovery section also states three to five days).
  • Lower eyelid: about two weeks of downtime.
  • Contact lenses and eye makeup: after 2-3 weeks.
  • Results: visible within four to six weeks, once swelling subsides.
