Eyelid surgery work

  • Upper eyelid surgery. An outpatient procedure under local anesthesia that removes sagging upper eyelid skin, a narrow strip of muscle and a small amount of fat (eyelid surgery).
  • Lower eyelid surgery. Described as more complex and done under general anesthesia. It treats bulging fat, baggy skin, sagging muscles and loose tendons, and the tear trough deformity that causes a dark circle near the nose.
  • Candidates: extra upper lid skin often appears in the late 30s or early 40s; some people have baggy lower lids in their 20s from heredity. Patients taking blood thinners, including aspirin, ibuprofen, vitamin E and fish or flaxseed oils, are not candidates while taking them.
  • After surgery, Dr. Mickel recommends elevating the head of the bed and applying iced gauze to the upper lids for the first few days.
  • Brow lift. The page describes lifting the forehead to smooth frown lines, restore eyebrow position, and raise and tighten loose upper eyelid skin. It is also used for a congenitally low brow and for asymmetry from facial palsy (brow lift).

Gallery: the face gallery includes an upper blepharoplasty before-and-after case (face gallery).

Other procedures

The site lists facelift and neck lift, chin augmentation, ear shaping, lip augmentation, breast surgery, tummy tuck, liposuction, upper arm lift, CoolSculpting, Botox and fillers, laser treatments and facial peels (source).

Insurance and cost

  • "Insurance rarely covers the cost of elective cosmetic surgery and procedures"; unless the surgery is done for medical reasons, patients pay for it themselves (FAQs).
  • Consultation fee: $175. Financing is offered through CareCredit.
  • The site publishes no eyelid surgery price.

Recovery

  • Upper eyelid surgery: most patients return to work in a couple of days; swelling and bruising take 7-10 days to go away (eyelid surgery).
  • Lower eyelid surgery: back at work in 7-10 days; full activity in three weeks; swelling and bruising can take two or three weeks to resolve.
  • The FAQ states recovery from small procedures such as eyelid lifts is 3-5 days, and benefits of eyelid surgery and forehead lift can last 5 to 15 years (FAQs).
